SET General 2015 Analysis


The paper comprised 150 questions, spread over 4 sections – General English, Quantitative, General Awareness and Analytical & Logical Reasoning. Each question was followed by 4 options. The time limit of the paper was 150 minutes. Each correct attempt would fetch 1 mark. There would be no negative marking for wrong answers.

The level of difficulty of the entire paper can be summed up to be moderate. Many of the questions, particularly in Quantitative, General English and Analytical & Logical Reasoning sections have been discussed in Pro Talent's material almost in a similar manner.

General English 
This section had one Reading Comprehension passage of about 400-500 words followed by 5-6 questions. Unlike last year, ‘Fill in the Blanks’ questions were largely based on prepositions and conjunctions. Also, there were around 8-10 questions based on sentence correction, 4-5 questions on Analogy, 4-5 Vocabulary based questions and a couple of questions on Odd one Out. Apart from this, 2 Para jumble based questions were asked wherein the first sentence was fixed and the following 4 sentences had to be arranged to form a logical sequence. A score of about 30-33 in this section can be considered a good score. 

Quantitative

Arithmetic, followed by Number System, dominated this section. In Arithmetic, questions were asked from Averages, Percentages, Profit, Loss & Discount, Time, Speed & Distance and Time & Work. There were 3-4 questions from Number System and a few questions from Permutation & Combination as well. Apart from this, the section also had 2 sets of Data Interpretation (one tabular and one bar graph) and one set of Data Sufficiency questions. A score of 29-32 can be considered a good score. 

General Awareness

This section was largely dominated by questions from current GK. Like last year, questions in this section were from Business GK, Companies and their Founders, Sports, Awards, Books & Authors and Science. The level of difficulty of this section can be said to be moderate to difficult with around 19-22 doable questions. A score of 20+ can be considered good in this section. 

Analytical & Logical Reasoning

A total of 30 questions were asked in this section. There were two arrangement based sets with about 5 questions each (one on linear arrangement and the other on circular arrangement). There was one set on Blood Relations with about 5 questions. There were about 5 questions each on Series and Coding-Decoding. Also, a couple of puzzles (matrix based) and one symbol based question appeared in this section. The level of difficulty of this section can be said to be easy. A score of 22-25 can be considered good. 

The expected cut-off for Symbiosis Pune campus can be estimated to hover in the range of 110-115 and for Symbiosis Noida campus, the cut-off may vary from 105-110.
