  • Can you tell me something about TISS Mumbai?

    The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was accorded the status of a deemed-to-be university under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.

  • We want to pursue an MBA program and make a career in management, can you tell me which program of TISS Mumbai should we to apply. ?

    TISS Mumbai's MA in HRM and LR is the only program which the industry treats as being equivalent to an MBA (HR) program. The other programs are also good, but they are unlike the MBA programs and must be opted only if you are interested in making a career in that domain.

  • What is the eligibility criteria?

    Candidates having a bachelor's degree with minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent ( under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1 year bridge course pattern of study or any other pattern fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education) from a recognized university are eligible to apply

    b) At the time of applying candidates pursuing a 3-year degree programme should have passed in all the subjects of the 1st to 4th semesters and candidates pursuing a 4-year degree programme should have passed in all the subjects of 1st to 6th semesters.

    c) Only those candidates who will be able to complete all the requirements of their final year Bachelor's Degree examinations by Saturday, June 11, 2016 are eligible to apply to all the programmes.

    Till the time the candidate submits the results of the final year degree examination, admission to any of the Master's Degree Programmes of the Institute will be provisional. The results of the final examination have to be submitted before September 30, 2016. The provisional admissions of those who fail to do so stand cancelled.

  • When is TISSNET examination scheduled to be conducted ? When is the last date for applying for it? 

    TISSNET examination is scheduled to be conducted on Jan 9, 2016. It is a computer based exam. The last date for applying for the same is Nov 30, 2015.

  • What is the cost of the application?

    A candidate can apply for a maximum of 3 programmes in two campuses in the same application form.

    For General candidates :

    Rs. 1000/- for One programme
    Rs. 1000/- x 2 = Rs.2000/- for Two programmes ( Bank charges additional )
    Rs. 1000/- x 3 = Rs. 3000/- for Three programmes ( Bank charges additional )

    b ) For SC / ST candidates :

    Rs 250 /- For One Programme ( Bank charges additional )
    Rs. 250/- x 2 = Rs.500/- for Two programmes ( Bank charges additional )
    Rs. 250/- x 3 = Rs. 750/- for Three programmes ( Bank charges additional )

  • Can you tell me about TISSNET examination? 

    The objective test will have questions related to General Knowledge; Math & Logical Reasoning; and English Proficiency. Duration of the examination is 1 hour 40 mins.Last year there were 100 questions, which accounted for a total of 100 marks.There was no negative marking.
  • What is the intake of MA in HRM and LR?

    60 seats.

  • Does TISS follow the policy of reservation?

    Yes, it provides 15%, 7.5% and 27% reservation to Scheduled Caste, Schedule Tribe and Other Backward Classes (non-creamy layer) for each of the programmes. In addition, supernumerary seats are allocated to Persons With Disabilities (PWD) {3%} , Kashmiri migrants {1%} and children of the Armed Forces Employees {5%}.

  • Can you give me some preparation tips for the TISSNET examination?* 

    As far as Mathematics and English is concerned, a good preparation for CAT should be more than sufficient.

    As far as Logical Reasoning is concerned, one needs to be thorough with all the topics of Analytical puzzles, Venn diagrams and deductions.  Areas such as number series, letter series, analogies etc should also be prepared.

    For the section on GK, In addition to reading newspapers regularly, it would be advisable for a student to prepare from the following sources:
